Privacy Policy for Slovira
This Privacy Policy explains how Slovira (“Slovira”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Slovira mobile app, desktop app, and browser extension (together, the “Service”).
Slovira is operated by Serhii Prynkevych. If you have any questions, contact us at serhiko@slovira.app.
We have designed Slovira to collect as little as possible. You can use the core app — spaced-repetition study, the built-in word library, and adding your own words — entirely on your device, without an account and without sending us any personal data. The data described below is only involved when you choose to use the optional cloud and AI features.
1. Summary
| Do we show ads? | No. |
| Do we use analytics or tracking? | No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. |
| Do we sell your data? | No. We never sell or rent your personal data. |
| Can you use the app without an account? | Yes. Sign-in is optional and only needed for cloud sync and AI features. |
| Where is data stored? | On your device, and — only if you sign in — in Google Firebase (Firestore). |
2. Information we collect
a) Account information (only if you sign in)
Slovira uses Google Sign-In (via Firebase Authentication) for the optional cloud-sync feature. When you sign in, we receive from Google and store:
- your email address,
- your display name, and
- a Google/Firebase user ID that identifies your account.
We use this solely to identify your account so your vocabulary can sync across your devices. If you never sign in, we do not collect any of this.
b) Your vocabulary content (only if you sign in)
When you are signed in, the study data you create is stored in our cloud database (Google Firestore) so it can sync across your devices. This includes:
- the words you add (the word, its translation, example sentence, phonetic transcription, and any personal notes/mnemonics you write),
- each word's learning status and spaced-repetition schedule (level, review dates, and the algorithm's internal counters), and
- your learning progress (XP, streaks, achievements, daily goal, and the languages you are learning).
Images you attach to a word stay on your device only and are not uploaded to our servers.
c) Data sent to the AI feature (only when you use it)
Slovira offers an optional “AI auto-fill” feature (the ✨ button, hover-to-translate, and the browser extension's AI tools). When you use it, the word or short text you are looking up is sent — over an encrypted connection — through our server (a Google Cloud Function) to Google's Gemini API, which returns a translation, example sentence, and phonetic transcription.
Only the text you choose to look up is sent. We do not attach your name, email, or other personal identifiers to these AI requests beyond what is needed to verify you are a signed-in user. We use Google's paid Gemini API tier; under Google's terms for that tier, your prompts are not used to train Google's models.
d) Information stored only on your device
The following stay on your device and are never sent to us: your interface language, light/dark theme, notification time, study-cycle setting, onboarding status, and any images attached to words. Local notifications (the daily study reminder) are scheduled on your device; we do not operate a push-notification server and do not collect notification tokens.
e) What we do not collect
We do not collect your precise or approximate location, contacts, SMS/calls, health data, financial/payment information, browsing history, or device advertising identifiers, and we do not use cookies or tracking pixels for advertising.
3. How we use your information
We use the limited information above only to:
- provide cloud sync — keep your vocabulary and progress consistent across your phone, desktop, and browser extension;
- provide the AI auto-fill feature — generate translations, examples, and phonetics for the words you look up;
- operate and secure the Service — for example, enforcing that you can only read and write your own data; and
- respond to you if you contact support or send feedback.
We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
4. Legal bases (for users in the EEA/UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the sync and AI features you request when you sign in or tap the AI button.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure and working correctly.
- Consent — where required; you can withdraw it at any time by signing out and/or deleting your data (see Section 8).
5. How your information is shared
We do not sell your data and do not share it for others' marketing. We use a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions) — stores your account, vocabulary, and progress, and runs the AI proxy.
- Google Gemini API — processes the text you submit to the AI feature to generate translations and examples.
These providers act as processors under our instructions. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users or the Service.
Google's handling of data is governed by the Firebase Data Processing Terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
6. International data transfers
Slovira's cloud infrastructure runs on Google Cloud, and data (including the AI proxy
in the us-central1 region) may be processed in the United States and
other countries where Google operates. Where required, these transfers rely on
appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses,
as described in Google's terms linked above.
7. Data retention
- Your vocabulary and progress are retained in our cloud database for as long as your account exists and you keep cloud sync enabled.
- Data stored on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- AI requests are processed transiently to return a result and are not retained by us as a separate log of your activity.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or withdraw consent.
You can exercise the most important of these directly in the app:
- Sign out at any time (Settings → Account) to stop further cloud sync.
- Delete all your words from the cloud and device (Settings → “Delete all my words”).
- Edit or delete individual words at any time.
Account & data deletion
To request deletion of your entire account and all associated data, email us at serhiko@slovira.app from the address associated with your account, or use the deletion steps above. We will delete your cloud-stored personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain it to comply with a legal obligation. A page describing this process is available at /delete-account.
EEA/UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.
9. Security
We protect your data with industry-standard measures: all network traffic uses encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), data at rest in Firebase is encrypted by Google, and our database security rules enforce that each user can access only their own data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
10. Children's privacy
Slovira is intended for users aged 13 and over (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Payments (when Premium becomes available)
Slovira is currently free. When optional Premium subscriptions launch, they will be processed by Google Play Billing. Slovira does not receive or store your card or payment details — Google handles the transaction. This section will take effect when the subscription feature ships.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
